This wine is a special blend and bottling to honor the life of Haley Margaret Dowdell (October 22, 1986 - August 28, 2012) and to help raise awareness and funding for others who battle Cystic Fibrosis.
We set out to make wine that is as light, bright, approachable yet full of character as Haley and accomplished this by creating a unique blend of Pinot Gris, Roussanne, and Viogner. The Pinot Gris contributes citrus notes to the nose along with bright acidity to the palate, while the Roussanne provides the roundness. A touch of Viogner was added to lift the nose and increase the stone-fruit aromatics and add in subtle floral notes.
We also wanted to create a special and unique package for this wine. The label represents Haley with her name and images of her favorite activities (knitting, reading, cooking, and hockey) set among the sixty-five roses which wrap around the bottle.
For every bottle sold of Haley Margaret $10 will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Fountain - an organization which helps fund efforts to cure and control the disease and improve the quality of life of those affected by it.
In the glass, this white wine sparkles with layered shades of brilliant golden straw. On the nose, this wine is redolent of stone fruit namely freshly picked peaches and apricots, with hints of the citrus fruits lime and grapefruit and slight floral notes. This unoaked wine enters light on the palate, shows balanced acidity and finishes round and silky smooth making it the perfect companion to compliment any meal.
Bronze Medal - Toast of the Coast
By all accounts, 2012 was just about as perfect of a year as any winemaker could hope for. The only argument to that would probably be that there was not enough rain to keep us from calling it a drought year. The winter was mild and with only a few early spring frost days and no real threats. The summer was mild to warm with no real high heat events, just warm days and cool nights. Just perfect for growing premium wine grapes! The fall 2011 rains set up the vineyards for a good spring push and heavier than normal crop loads. Some vineyards had record setting crop levels, and many vineyard managers had to work harder to keep crop levels down on the premium vineyards. After trials of 2010 and 2011 vintages, 2012 had everyone in the north coast jumping for joy.
43% Roussanne, 43% Pinot Gris, 14% Viogner
Our proprietary white wine is primarily a blend of Pinot Gris and Roussanne. Perhaps an unusual blend for Napa Valley, it was clear to us that they two lots were meant to be blended together after tasting them apart. The Pinot Gris contributes citrus notes to the nose along with bright acidity to the palate, while the Roussanne provides the supple roundness. The nose needed just a little more fruit, so a touch of Viogner was added to lift the nose and increase the stone-fruit aromatics and add in subtle floral notes. All in all we are very proud of this blend and hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
