The Farmer & The Fox restaurant is now OPEN

The Farmer & The Fox  Restaurant  opened very quietly to the public for dinner on Thursday June 5th and is now open nightly from 5pm to 10pm. I have officially dined there more than a handful of times since opening night and sometimes find myself dreaming of the smoked duck wings, freshly baked popovers, game pie, smoked mussel chowder… oh, who am I kidding, I love it all. Please come in and taste for yourself. For those of you who prefer things spicy, may I suggest January’s pickles or the lamb tartare. Don’t forget to order an artisanal cocktail while there – my current favorite is the Mary Macarthur – served in a champagne flute, this cocktail blushes with bubbles, grapefruit, peach bitters, gin and elderflower liqueur. Top it all off with a cherry (and chocolate) dessert paired with Cairdean Vineyards’ 2011 Zinfandel port (dessert wine).

I will admit whole-heartedly that it has been quite a while since any of us have written a blog post about current happenings at the estate. With all that is going on sometimes we forget to inform even our best of friends as days turn into weeks and weeks into months…. I figured now was a great time to bring everyone up to speed and apologize for not keeping in touch.

The Farmer & The Fox restaurant is now OPEN

Our tasting room is now open to the public daily from 11am to 8pm. Please stop by and say hello and tell us about your day while enjoying a complimentary taste of our Sauvignon Blanc or a glass of wine on our patio with lovely views of the surrounding vineyards and mountains and our winery and caves.

We hosted our very first wedding on property on Friday, July 13th for Mr. Cody Stacey, our very own associate winemaker, and his lovely and talented opera-singer bride Hannah Stephens. The affair was lovely and the day gorgeous. There were numerous bridesmaids that walked down the aisle to the Game of Thrones tune, face-painting, dancing around the fountain and even karaoke! Passed appetizers included lamb stick drumettes, salmon tartare bites, burrata with peas. The cake was also quite delicious with fresh berries and cream. Photos should be forthcoming soon, so please stay-tuned!

Next up to open at Cairdean Estate you ask? Butterscots Bakery/Deli is up on our list and coming this July for coffee/espresso, breakfast and lunch.  This will quickly be followed by harvest at our brand new winery, which can be viewed from our Tasting Room patio or from the back bar window at The Farmer & The Fox.  There are a few more openings later this year, but we can save those for a later blog post. I will say that I am working closely (and diligently) with a local designer to fill the shelves with unique and rare finds for Rosgal Mercantile.  We are also in the final stages of polishing our new website and hope to reveal it next week.
